Describe the ups and downs you have encountered to date in your inquiry. Specifically, when you were frustrated in your inquiry, what did you do to address this situation?
My project started off very well, I started doing a lot of research immediately and was extremely interested in my inquiry. The second week I slacked off a little because I had done so much on the first week, thinking that things will even out on the third week. However, I completely forgot that the third week was the crazy week before winter break, where everything is happening at once and where the class only got one block of ZIP. This resulted in me having to do some catch up work over winter break.
When I was making my presentation, I realized that the question ‘what makes a story scary or disturbing?’ was too broad for a 6-8 minute presentation. Disturbing stories and horror stories were almost two different genres. Some stories are both disturbing and scary, but most are clearly separate. Therefore I decided to focus on just the scary part. My inquiry question turned into ‘what makes a story scary?’. This was easier to turn into a lesson-style presentation because it was more concise and I could focus on one main topic. Also, I feel like it’s more interesting and beneficial to the audience because it is more to the point and less confusing.
